Metrocycles
Metrocycles is a custom t-shirt company that incorporates a bicycle into city and state names. I spotted this on Urban Velo and when they didn't have Pittsburgh I thought for sure that they wouldn't have Memphis, but they do! Well, not as a t-shirt but as an oval sticker. I'm sure the t-shirts won't be difficult though.

Midnight Classic Jersey Making Party
A couple of people are getting together this Friday night, the night before the Midnight Classic, to DIY some t-shirts to wear at said Midnight Classic. I've always loved screening my own t-shirts so I'm gonna try to make it over to this.
Here's the Facebook.

Nice Ride MN: Minnesota's Bike Share Expands from Streetfilms on Vimeo.
Nice Ride is a bike share program in Minneapolis. Really cool at 1:55, putting the station on the street in front of a cafe patio so the patrons don't have to smell car exhaust. What if the Young Avenue Deli was like this? No loud Harley's either.

El Toro Loco Bicycle Rack
Man I have been craving some Mexican food. We have some chips and Pancho's cheese dip (only the best) at home but I want to save it for when we make quesadillas or tacos. But I'll probably end up going out for Mexican before that! You know, when El Toro Loco moved in and covered that patio I, as I'm sure many others were disappointed, but the food is good and that's what keeps me coming back. Then they installed bike racks and later put up the front patio; I just wish it was a little easier to get there!
Here's how it racks up:
Form - Wave
Function - Pass (10 bike potential)
Environment - No go here
Points of Interest - El Toro Loco

Saturday Morning Video
Take out the 20" and put in a cross bike and take out the truck trailer and put in singletrack and you have my ideal commute. I have no idea what they're saying at the end but it's probably something like, "This shit is so rad!" over and over.

Casual Friday
We've had some Trek Ride+ electric assist bikes at the shop for awhile now and while I've done a few test rides around the block I've not taken it for an actual ride, until now.
This isn't a moped, there is no throttle. You have to be pedaling for the assist to be active: stop pedaling, no assistance. Even still, I didn't break a sweat on my 5 mile commute this morning. I was a bit let down with the 16-17mph top speed but the thing is that the speed was consistent. Where you really felt the drive kick in was at lights. Taking off you have a quick burst of help that gets you up to speed and from there all you have to do is make sure the pedals are moving.
So check my outfit: pants, undershirt, tucked-in polo shirt. This was the "Casual Friday" dress when I worked at a law firm so I know plenty of people dress like this or similar every work day. With a bike like this, "sweaty and smelly" is no longer an excuse for not riding to work.
How Much Can You Transport?
The Trek Transport is the kind of bike that most people see and say, "What kind of bike is that!?" My response: "Awesome. That is an awesome kind of bike." And then I go on to list all of the places where I would use the Transport: the grocery store/farmers market, hardware store, barbecues... Heck, I could even put my girl on the back and go have a picnic! Just look at this thing:
So even though I can imagine myself using this bike I don't think other people can, so this is where you get to help. I'm going to let you ride the Transport so you can help me show everyone what this bike is capable of.
Now I don't want you to go out and and try to test the limits because if you break the bike, you buy it. But don't be scared. The Transport is rated to carry 300 lbs of rider weight plus 220 lbs of cargo weight. The cargo weight breaks down like this: 20 lbs on the front rack, 100 on the back and 50 on each side load rack. And that doesn't mean that if you weigh less than 300 lbs you can use the difference in cargo. But I know you wouldn't try that anyhow.
To reserve the Transport send an email to cort@peddlerbikeshop.com. You'll be able to use the bike for one day. You will of course have to fill out a Rental Agreement but there won't be a rental charge.
You will also have to take a picture of your cargo and send it to me at the above email address. I'll post the picture on the blog and each month the person with the most awkward haul will be rewarded. As if using the Transport for free isn't enough of a reward. Sheesh! You guys and gals sure ask a lot!

Cycle Memphis 2.0 Route
Cycle Memphis has published the planned route for their second ride; viewable here.
The last ride was pretty slow so anyone can keep up. I'll be pulling my trailer with some spare tubes, floor pump and misc tools.
Meet up is at the gazebo at Cooper and Young, check facebook for extra info.
