Thursday Night Ride - The Return

Meet at Revolutions (Cooper side) at 8:30. Ride leaves shortly thereafter. No cruisers. No trailers. Bring your own flat kits. Fixed gear if you got it. I promise to bring the ugliest mash up of a fixed gear I can part together.

And make sure your crank arms, bottom brackets, pedals, etc... are securely attached.

Thursday Night Industrialized

I was looking through my pictures from last Thursday and noticed a kind of industrial theme. This first picture was taken where the V&E Greenline dumps out onto Cleveland by the old Sears Crosstown Building.

This next one is a picture that I haven't been able to find on the internet. It's of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in downtown Memphis and it seems that only skateboarders and BMXers know what it really represents. It looks kind of like a lion or also a metal wave.

This last one was taken while we were on our way to the Indian Burial Mounds. This train was stopped on the tracks and had a cow skull with some feathers hanging from it affixed to the front.

After this my battery died so no pictures of jumping off roofs into pools. It wasn't until two days later that I realized that when I fell earlier that night, I cracked the screen on my camera. I think it will still take pictures. I guess we'll find out tonight.

Thursday Night Ride

I've made a tentative route map here. Of course it doesn't show the roads through the park but you get the general idea. Bring a camera, there will be plenty of photo opportunities.

FAIL

Yeah, Thursday night ride was a FAIL as far as trying to preset a route.

Two of the pedestrian bridges I had planned were locked, and the one alternate we did had bums sleeping on it and there was a downed tree on the offramp.

I think people were kind of confused about the weird route we took to get everywhere.

At least Ted didn't lose a crank arm this ride!

It's not called Thursday Night Destination

It's the Thursday Night Ride. 3 is the magic number. 3 Pedestrian Bridges, 3 Garages, 3 Kings.

Thursday Night Ride Recap

Last week wasn't my best week. Not as bad as this week for Ted:

Last week, I really sucked on account of my bike being more for the trails. This week, CP30 fixed up my trainer bike so i can change gears on those stupid, useless hills and not get wiped out so quickly (i'm not known for my endurance). The highlight of the ride was definitely the greenline. i'll be doing that again fo sho. I hadn't seen it yet and it was so much more awesome than i imagined. And i have a near-perfect imagination. I also have a strong attraction to dirt and mud. purrr.

Riding with my two buddy girls was fun, too (shout out to Lor and Erica). They make me feel better about being slow and the aformetnioned hated hills. I love how Erica and i always discuss the latest in clothing and dessert; the two most important topics. ever. I also enjoyed meeting some new faces and i hope i don't have to work EVERY freaking thursday night so i can enjoy more of these summa tours.



When we got home i chugged a dr.pepper cherry and passed out. i awoke Friday refreshed and thinner, which is a big plus, since i ate nothing but pizza covered in pizza covered in ice cream on thursday. So, thank you to everyone that came out on Thursday-you helped make this week one of my most enjoyable rides!

Finally, Nice Weather and a Solution

We all love the Thursday Night Ride: the camraderie, the bicyles, the ride, the destination, the beer. The only thing most of us don't like is the 11PM leave time. After talking with several people we've come up with a solution that we'll try this Thursday: 2 Rides.

The first ride will leave from the co-op at 9pm. Destination TBD.
The second ride will leave from 1688 Carruthers at 11pm. That address is Charles' place. He tells me that there will be people hanging out outside.

It's so simple.

The Thursday Night Ride Flowers Reunion

Sorry to fool you with the post topic but Isaiah is not in town, we're just moving the meeting place back to the Flowers' abode on Philadelphia. Yes, you and I both wish Isaiah would come home, if only just to say hi and ride a bike a grace us with his joy-filling smile, you know the one where he hucks a little laugh, but I think we just might have to wait until the holidays draw near. So meet-up at 9pm and get your safety meeting on or relax in the hammocks; I don't know where we're riding tonight but it's dry, it's not too cold, and I'll be riding fixed for the first time in about 6 weeks, so you don't want to disappoint by missing out. See you out tonight!

The NEW Thursday Night Ride

Since the departure of our dear friend Isaiah Flowers we're moving the weekly Thursday night ride to our new gracious host's humble abode: Lauren Crabtree has volunteered her house at 1920 Oliver for the pre-ride rendezvous point. It's almost the corner of Oliver and Barksdale.

She's also having a party Thursday night so the ride will start "early" as in 9pm. This week shouldn't be a long ride, maybe lasting an hour or so, depending on the start time.

In other news I've added a new blog to The Latest. Our female rider friends in Nashville have a blog now: The Menstrual Cycles. Check it out and show your support. And Devan, I'm sure you've gotten that leg over the bar skid down so put some pics up!

Monday Sept. 7th: Bicycle Polo! Pick-up games and a mini-tournament depending on players.

Going Away Party Tonight

Tonight for the Thursday night ride we will start at Isaiah's house at the normal time: 10ish; ride to UofM area over to Chase's house where there will be some sort of shindig to wish Dennis, Jevans, and Chase a safe journey. Next week they leave on their ride across the states to San Francisco.
